How to Solve Bridges (Hashi) Puzzles
Each island shows how many bridges touch it. You connect islands with straight lines, up to two between a pair, without crossing, until everything is one connected network.

1. Learn the rules
Bridges run straight, never cross another bridge and never pass over an island. Two islands can have one or two bridges between them. The numbers must be met exactly.
2. Look for obvious double bridges
An island whose number needs every possible bridge, for example a 4 with only two neighbours, must send two bridges to each.
3. Check corners and edges
Islands in corners or on edges have few directions, so their bridges are often forced. A 3 in a corner must use both directions.
4. Finish islands as they fill
When an island has all its bridges, no more can join it. That blocks neighbours and creates new forced moves.
5. Keep everything connected
All islands must end up in one group. If a completed group would be cut off from the rest, you have made a mistake.
Frequently asked questions
- Are there guesses in Hashi?
- Good puzzles can be solved with logic alone, using forced moves one after another.
- Can bridges cross?
- No. A bridge can never cross another bridge.
